Well, hiya, and welcome back to the nth remake of our web site. It's been a long time comin' - 23 months - but I think you'll appreciate all the improvements and additions.
New stuff department: So much has been added (and still there will be more later!), including pages for the dining room, living room, sewing room, patio, front yard, attic, downstairs bathroom and a background information page. ALL pages have been updated with picture indexes and picture dates, and all pictures have improved resolution. The site is almost seven times as big, and contains over three times as many pictures as before!
Nan and I wish all our viewers well, and hope you all are hale and hearty. As we continue on here in the middle of spring of 2010, so much is done, and so much still remains to be done, but, by golly, we made it livable, and moved in in December, 2008, and now we live here. It is wonderful to be here in our Castle!
Nan: We realize that many of you have now seen the house "up close and personal", but we also think that you'd enjoy seeing the "from there to here" work that it all entailed.
I know that we are really enjoying the house in it's less than perfect state. Maybe by this time next year we'll have the majority of the work all done, and can settle back and think ahead to other projects we'd both like to accomplish.
In the meantime we'll plug along and keep on doing a bit here and a bit there and before we know it, it will be done!
06/21/08 - Bob: updates: New pages: Kitchen/Finishing Touches, Garage/Before and During,
More/Opera House Wood, and Utility Room/Finishing Touches. I really wanted to get a More/Tools
page and a More/Furniture page done, but decided to publish this as is, and add those
Real Soon Now...
Nan: The update on the webpage has been a while in the making mostly because we've been so busy working at the house. But also because processing the pictures, making notations for all of the ones that actually go on the website and then putting it all together takes a great deal of time.
It's a real push between working on the house or working on the website. We need to get moved into the house so we can quit paying rent at Little House, but also we want to keep all of you informed on what we're doing.
We have only shown a small portion of the pictures we've taken. We have over 1400 pictures! Bob surmised that the camera might not even work because he'd had it for so long and he'd only taken 10 pictures with it. As you can see, it worked. :)
Bob: And so, the work continues. Finishing the kitchen was a real challange, because everything I did, I was doing for the first time! Like installing a sink, and pipes. As you all know, April was tax time, and that took a little time out of the schedule, too. With Nan's enthusiastic approval, I took the time to re-do the garage, as it is a key space for the move coming up oh-so-soon. It will be my workshop, as well as storage space for supplies and things coming over from Little House. All the work in the coming month will now concentrate on repairing, priming and painting the main rooms on the first floor, as well as the sewing room upstairs. Aditionally, some 300 feet of quarter-round floor moulding must be installed into all these rooms, the downstairs bathroom, and the bedroom. With all that accomplished, we can move in. And, boy, are we looking forward to that!
04/13/08 - Updates. New pages: Kitchen Rehab, Kitchen BuildUp and New Cabinet Building.
Not much else has changed; the month of March was mostly about rebuilding the kitchen,
and for one guy (with some help from Nan!), I'm doing pretty good. April will see a lot of improvements,
too, including drywall repairs and painting in at least five rooms: living room, dining room,
downstairs bathroom, sewing room and the long room. We are indeed fortunate in that, now that the
Pantry and Utility room are done, and the Kitchen is almost done, the most difficult work is
behind us. Yes, there is still much to be done, but we have tackled and completed
the longest projects already!
I might add that in addition to the software mentioned below in maintaining this site, no small amount of the work is performed by Nan in PhotoShop, reducing and orienting the pictures we take so that pages will load in less than forty years...;-}~
03/06/08 - Updates. Rooms added: bathrooms, long room, computer room. Also,
substantial updates to kitchen and cabinet refinishing, and completion of the
pantry!
The site topology keeps tweaking to accomodate the flow of pictures from the project. Even this page is "right", now, with the updates at the top.
I'm new at this Web Site dealie, and still figuring a lot of things out. However, at least up until now, I am using nothing more than explorer, notepad and Nero PhotoSnap to update and maintain this site. The pictures are all taken with an ancient (by today's standards) Ricoh ROC-5300 2.3mp digital camera.
I have more ideas for pages on this site, and hope to implement them sometime soon. Unfortunately, building web pages by hand takes almost as long as building the REAL rooms (not, LOL, but hey...), and We REALLY need to get moved into this new home, see...
02/01/08 - Updates, especially to pantry, utility room, cabinet refinishing.
01/04/08 - First creation of website.
