Sewing Room Before

Back to list of rooms

1) West Corner (12/28/07)

Bob: This is the only room with no window. We might put one in someday about where you see the never-installed bathroom door leaning against the southwest wall. The bedroom is through the doorway on the right.

Nan: Lots of spackling and painting to do in here.

2) East Corner (12/28/07)

Bob: The wall to the right is between the sewing room and the upstairs bathroom. It was added when the previous owners redivide the upstairs space to elarge the bathroom.

Nan: This is the door to the area where the washer and dryer are located. My sewing/serger table will stand against this wall.

Bob: So far, we've given that laundry room the name The Long Room.

3) North Corner (12/28/07)

Nan: The doors are for the closet and bedroom. Eventually this will be my wonderful sewing room; I am so looking forward to that.

Bob: This closet will probably end up being my closet for clothes. Nan will use the ones downstairs in the computer room and the downstairs bathroom.

The opening to the attic is in this closet.

4) 3DHA View (01/04/08)

Bob: 3D rendering of how we envision this end to look when complete. Ignore the missing ceiling!

Nan: Who needs a ceiling, anyhow? I feel like I'm in heaven whenever I'm in this room...no ceiling just makes me that much closer. :)

Bob: Later, we interchanged the two desks. It just worked out better that way.

5) Land Of The Missing (08/10/08)

Bob: This is the doorframe between the sewing room and the long room. And as typical of this room, a piece of the trim is missing. It used to be here, but no longer. Next several pictures are of similar deficiencies.

Nan: Lots of missing trim in this room...but soon, soon, soon...

Bob: There have been small exposures of different wallpapers in several rooms in this house, although this is the only place we saw this particular pattern. Of course, the downstairs bathroom was another story altogether...

6) A Door Is Ajar... (08/10/08)

Bob: ...or in this case, never installed. This rough opening is between the sewing room and upstairs bathroom. The door (and frame) are here, just waiting...

Nan: This angle makes that door opening look bowed out. It isn't, really.

7) Incomplete Assumption (08/10/08)

Bob: This is the nook next to the long room door. The upstairs bathroom was expanded back in the last epoch, and this wall was created then. No baseboards were ever installed. In fact, the spackling was never finished either. You can see here where parts were, and parts weren't.

Nan: The only thing complete about this room was our desire to have it complete.

8) Needs Some Work (08/18/08)

Bob: This is the southwest wall, the front of the house. Like other walls upstairs, this one was "improved" by installing sheetrock over the original (damaged) plaster. The result "buries" the baseboard and door mouldings, and is generally uneven. From what I could tell, a built-in closet was removed here, thus requiring sheetrock to cover the missing plaster wall. The ceiling patch shows how big the closet was.

Nan: If only they had left that built-in closet. Actually the shelves we have to go here are very nice...and of course we can't forget the wonderful leftover kitchen cabinets.

9) Patchwork Wall (08/10/08)

Bob: This is a detail shot of the wall between the sewing room and the bedroom. These walls and ceiling were patched with scrap drywall. Original plaster below, and above right gaurantees a profundity of creative mudding. Even the original door capital at the top of the doorframe moulding will eventually need a final piece on the left end. And there are missing similar pieces in several other rooms as well.

Nan: This is the wall that eventually will hold all my yardsticks and rulers.

Bob: I guess it's time to get to work...
