Bob: Ahhh! We finally got the old gal out. Now the floor can dry.
Nan: Who says old water heaters are gals?
Bob: With all the prep work done to the floor, it's now time to lay the plywood.
Nan: Can you imagine trying to keep this clean?
Bob: I cut and fit the plywood floor in an evening. The new wood is attached to the old with treated two-inch deck screws on sixteen-inch centers both ways, plus one inch from edges.
Nan: Ahhh!
Bob: I preserved both hatches to the crawl space, just in case I need them.
Nan: Who cares about hatches? That sounds like having ducks to me.
Bob: That sounds like having senators to me...
Nan: Who's going to remember Orin Hatch?
Bob: Uh, anyone over thirty?
Bob: This is the former site for a washing machine; we shall use the upstairs site. The drain has been cut off and capped.
Nan: I sure hope I don't fall through one of these things.
Bob: That (somebody's) left-behind sheetrock worked just ducky for a quickie wall (ducks again! ::ducks::). Here is the water heater site again with the first mud applied. It's coming right along.
Nan: I can't wait to see this room painted, the water heater in, and the cabinets installed.
Bob: I'm just checking the fit, these cabinets need to be refurbished first.
Nan: It looks like it fits fine to me, screw 'er down!
Bob: First, some furring strips are needed to hold the shelves up. It's sort of like a wood bus.
Nan: I don't need a bus, just build me a shelf!
Bob: Can I call you a taxi?
Nan: You can if you want to, but I don't need one. I just need a shelf.
Bob: Along with some of the old kitchen cabinets, we wanted a stack of shelves here.
Nan: Git 'er done!
Bob: You slavedriver...
Nan: Behind every good man stands a better woman (with a whip!).
Bob: The top shelf is still to be built.
Nan: Imagine this with all my small appliances on it.
Bob: ...covers a multitude of sins.
Nan: OMG What a change!
Bob: The final coat really makes it look nice.
Nan: Bob added the upper shelf just for me.
Bob: Look, a spanking new water heater, installed by a local plumber. Sure, I coulda done it, but there were a few tricky bits. Besides, he threw in a new gas valve.
Nan: Isn't this beautiful?
Bob: Here's a nice closeup, showing the new copper lines.
Nan: I still think she's beautiful.
Bob: These are some of our refinished wall cabinets, hung by the chimney with care.
Nan: If I open the doors, will St. Nicholas be there?
Bob: Refinished base cabinets, lotsa room for sundries.
Nan: I don't have a lot of sundries, but I gotta lotta junque.
Bob: The existing kitchen countertop wasn't all that old. It seems that someone tried to do a quickie makeover at some time, and bought it new then. Here, a piece makes a great work area.
Nan: I love this cabinet!
Bob: The refinished pantry cupboard makes a dandy broom closet.
Nan: Quick! Hide the brooms!
Bob: Here we see two of the refurb cabinets, the built-in shelves, and the water heater, all "new". The last thing for in here is a carpet and a screen for the water heater, to make it look pretty. Also, that countertop still needs to be fastened down.
Nan: Wait'll I add the curtains...
Bob: And here they are...
